I Loved You More (acoustic version)

from Leaving (Reissue with Bonus Tracks) by Justin Winokur

about

As far as I know, this is the only song of mine to reach the top 40. I hit number 40 in Sweden! Aim low, baby.

The original version of this song appeared on the album Thirteen Songs About Love. This acoustic version has never been released before.

The notes below are from my diary, written during the recording sessions circa 2002-2003.

I wrote this during our family vacation in Clear Lake, California, during the same week I wrote No Truth Anymore. At the time I wrote it I really thought it wasn't about me. I felt like I wrote it for other people, friends of mine I've seen feel this way. Since then I've changed my mind. It's about me.

lyrics

I never loved you
like you thought I did before.
The truth comes out,
I loved you more.
And now you walked out,
it doesn't matter anymore.
The truth's too late,
I loved you more.

I know I don't know a way to turn back time
and I can't erase this image in my mind
of moment's lost, a chance I missed
a dream I will not find.
But it's all too late, it's all too late,
the tears fall on the floor.

I never loved you
like you thought I did before.
The truth comes out,
I loved you more.
And now you walked out,
it doesn't matter anymore.
The truth's too late,
I loved you more.
